A WIDOW suffered serious injuries and three other women were hurt when they were run over by their own car.

June Holloway, 60, was in a serious condition in hospital last night after being struck by the Vauxhall Mokka outside her home.

The retired civil servant and three women – aged 58, 59 and 81– had been in the car together in Broomhouse Avenue, Broomhouse, Edinburgh.

They had got out to inspect the vehicle and were hit when it moved backwards.

Neighbours ran to their aid before 999 crews arrived.

One resident said one of the women was trapped under the car for about 45 minutes until firefighters were able to jack it up and free her.

No one was in the car at the time of the freak accident, which happened at about 9.40pm on Wednesday.

Church-goer June suffered serious injuries to her body.

The 59-year-old woman involved suffered a serious head injury, while the other two were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.

One resident said: “I heard someone shouting that they were hurt and trapped and couldn’t get out. Two other women, who didn’t seem hurt, had been sitting on a wall. The driver’s side door of the Mokka was lying open but it had been forced past the point where it would normally stop.

“It’s difficult to picture how it could’ve happened.”

Concerned residents took to social media to express their concern for the injured. One said: “Praying for June.”

Police are investigating the incident and have appealed for information.
