EX-JAMBO ACCUSED OF RACIST ABUSE

Rix faces court claims over alleged slurs in 90s

AN EX-CHELSEA youth footballer claims he was subjected to a torrent of racist abuse by former Hearts boss Graham Rix. The alleged victim made accusations he was bullied and humiliated in front of his team-mates and felt so low he hated going to training. He is one of three black former youth team players at the London club reported to have launched a civil claim against Rix and ex-chief scout Gwyn Williams.

The pair deny the claims. Legal letters allege there was a “feral environment” at the club’s youth set-up in the 90s.

Among an alleged litany of racial slurs, there are claims a player was told to “f*** off back to Africa”.

Chelsea were managed at the time by ex-Holland star Ruud Gullit, who is said to have known nothing about the claims.

One of the alleged victims, who is in his 30s, claims he confronted Rix but had hot coffee thrown in his face.

Scotland Yard were told of the claims but dropped the case after a seven-month probe. The civil claim is said to have been lodged with Chelsea last February.

Rix, 60, was jailed in 1999 for having sex with an underage girl. He played for Dundee in the early 90s and managed Hearts from 2005 to 2006.

Eddie Johns, the lawyer for Rix and Williams, said: “Our clients deny all and any allegations of racial or other abuse.”
