A MUM feared she would be shot when masked raiders stormed her house, a court heard yesterday.

Scot Andrew McVicar and Colin Garrod, from Essex, are on trial in England accused of killing Tim Smith in Hullbridge, Essex.

McVicar, 33, was arrested in Harthill, Lanarkshire, 11 days after the raid.

Witness Ashleigh Lowe told Basildon Crown Court she arrived home from a night out to be met by two armed men in balaclavas.

Tim’s wife, Lesley, Ashleigh’s husband Glenn Mottram and her 14-yearold daughter were also there.

The court has heard that Tim, 53, was shoved by one suspect, causing him to fall and suffer a fatal head injury.

Speaking from behind screens, Ashleigh said: “I was petrified. I thought I was going to get shot.

“The men came into the hall and said something like, ‘Is there a safe in this house?’

“Lesley was shouting, ‘I think Tim is dead.’”

Ashleigh said she saw her husband give the men a bag of cash before they ran off.

McVicar and Garrod, 50, deny manslaughter, robbery and possessing an imitation firearm. The trial continues.
