Family tears after grave blaze shock
YOBS have left a family heartbroken after they torched a grave plot.
Devastated Liz Hamilton said it made her feel like she had to bury her mother “all over again”.
The gravestone was a final resting place for Liz’s mother, also Elizabeth, and her mother’s partner, Gerry McDaid, who both died in 2009. Elizabeth’s partner Billy Hamilton, 31, is also buried at the plot.
The grave, at St Conval’s Cemetery in Barrhead, Renfrewshire, was also set on fire.
Liz said: “There were broken beer bottles around the grave. They smashed the photo and destroyed ornaments and other things before setting the grave alight.”
Gerry’s granddaughter Shelly McArthur, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, added: “It is so sickening to think anyone could do that.”
