STARS DAZZLE AT CRITICS’ CHOICE AWARDS

- ANNA BURNSIDE

AFTER last week’s sombre Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards bash was a riot of colour.

The serious message – standing up against sexual abuse in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal – was still there in California, but the black dresses were back on the rack.

In their place were a slew of icy pale colours. Those who didn’t go for white, ecru, nude, putty or dust went for shouty reds or rich greens. Nicole Kidman was the only one in electric pink.

Diane Kruger wore what looked like two dresses, with the first sliding down her body to reveal the second.

Award winner Gal Gadot shimmered in a lurex number that resembled the tinsel curtains popular in miners’ welfare clubs in the 1970s.

But not everyone got the go-for-it memo.

Asia Kate Dillon, the nonbinary star of Billions and Orange Is The New Black, rocked up in a Black Lives Matter sweatshirt.
