From Back Page arrived in Glasgow yesterday to sign a loan deal until the end of the season and become the fifth signing of the January transfer window for Gers. Record Sport exclusively revealed boss Graeme Murty’s interest in the player last month and he can’t wait to get his Light Blues career started. Martin blanked all interest from the English Championship as he was so desperate to make the move to Ibrox. The 32-year-old hopes it will help revive his international career, having not featured since the 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Slovenia back in March. It was on one of his 29 Scotland games he sampled Ibrox as part of Gordon Strachan’s side who beat Georgia in a Euro 2016 qualifier. Martin said: “It was one of the best atmospheres I’ve played in. I’m really looking forward to pulling on the shirt now, playing there for Rangers and maybe getting back into the international frame.” Despite his lack of game time this season Martin insists he is fit and ready to play for Murty, who he knows from the Gers gaffer’s time as Norwich City youth boss. The defender has played in Under-23 games to get game time and trained with Norwich fitness coaches and added: “I’ve worked harder in the last four months than I ever have.” Meanwhile, fellow new boy Jason Cummings has earned the reputation as a target for the opposition – that’s why Murty loves him. The 22-year-old rubs rivals up the wrong way but the Gers boss admires his gallus streak and reckons he’s got what it takes to handle being in the spotlight. The Scotland cap has already hit back at social media abuse from fans since his move and Murty admires his confidence. He said: “He likes winding opponents up. The overriding sentiment is that if he is on your team you love him, and if not, he really winds you up. “He’s got a bit of an edge about him, the confidence and swagger of a centre-forward who loves scoring goals. “Everything I hear and see about him indicates a person who isn’t going to be fearful walking out at Ibrox or missing a chance. We need the kind of guy who will go again and again and again and be relentless. “Jason’s record is good, and I believe he has scored eight goals against us which is a sign of his confidence and also his quality. “But he knows what it’s about – he was desperate to come and that is another factor and a good sign. “You have to take people for who they are and realise every person can be an asset. “For example, Jamie Murphy is a quieter kind of guy, but he brings a different dynamic and a different skill set to the group. “I’m excited and I can’t wait to see what he’s got. I’ve seen loads of footage and he has a lot of character. I feel he can handle playing at Ibrox.” CALL THE HOTLINE FROM 11 TILL 12 NOON on: 0141 309 3306 or email us: hotline@dailyrecord.co.uk
