Grant: We didn’t wilt in Dubai heat

-

GRANT BRADBURN last night insisted Scotland’s new faces proved their potential ahead of the World Cup Qualifier despite a Tri-Series defeat in Dubai.

Michael Jones made it back-to-back half centuries but it wasn’t enough to stop the Scots slipping to a second loss against Ireland in three days.

The Irish posted a total of 331 only to be given a fright as Jones led the way with 74 before Calum MacLeod and Michael Leask racked up half centuries.

But Ireland held on for a 24-run win that sealed the Tri-Series while Scotland are pointless with two games left.

Bradburn’s side will look to book a place at the 2019 World Cup this March in Zimbabwe.

And the head coach said: “I’m proud of the efforts shown by our players to stay very much in the game right till the final overs. As a group there was a step up in aggressive intent in all facets of the game.

“We weren’t as precise as we expect with our bowling and fielding, which proved the fine margin in the contest.

“During this series we have had some forced changes, which has enabled valuable game time for new players.

“Michael Jones again top scored and has already shown strong capabilities at this level. Scott Cameron made his ODI debut and looked like a bowler with immense skills.

“In the closing stages Michael Leask and Calum combined for an outstanding partnership of 95 which contained impressive power-hitting and clever placement. While no one is satisfied with a loss the team will take away valuable learning and confidence from today.”
