COYLE IN FOR EFFI

- ALASDAIR FRASER sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

ROSS COUNTY were last night close to completing a deal for Woking striker Inih Effiong from the Conference.

The 6ft 3in target man is understood to have agreed terms with the bottom of the table Dingwall side after passing a medical yesterday.

A modest fee has still to be agreed but County hope to seal a deal to allow Effiong to play in tomorrow’s Cup tie at Kilmarnock.

Owen Coyle has had the 26-year-old striker scouted several times and watched him in person during the current winter break.

Effiong has hit seven goals in the last 12 matches for the National League side.

Meanwhile, Coyle insisted Hull City and Shrewsbury Town hadn’t made an approach for Ross County defender Jason Naismith.

The Staggies manager was bemused to read Sky TV reports on Wednesday night saying the two English clubs were on the trail of Naismith.

Coyle said: “There has not been one enquiry about Jason Naismith.

“I read it last night myself and it was the old classic – ‘Sky sources’.

“Whether it is Tom, Dick or Harry – whoever Sky’s sources are – I’ve got to say I read it with surprise myself.

“I’ve spoken to Jason and told him if anybody comes in with a bid for a player they will be the first to know.”
