RESCUE Gary at the club CORONATION STREET

STV, 7.30 & 8.30pm DEEP breaths everyone as the trial continues. And this time Roy is called as a witness. Of course, he gives Anna a glowing character reference, but he’s forced to make an admission about something else.

Meanwhile, Gary is horrified to realise that Bethany and her mate actually work at the lap dancing club as dancers. He tries to drag her out of there, but a bouncer moves in to stop him when Bethany protests. EASTENDERS

BBC1, 8pm IT’S STARTING to feel a bit like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in Walford at the moment, what with all the dodgy deals.

The men involved in Aidan’s job come out of hiding to try to find out where the money has gone. This results in accusations being flung around left, right and centre.

Meanwhile, Martin and Stacey fight after he accuses her of visiting Max again. And the row comes to a dramatic head. HOPEFUL Amber and Nick

BBC2, 6.30pm NOT for Michael Portillo an updated edition of the Lonely Planet guide.

No, he goes out armed with a guide book written in the 19th century, the one that has inspired this series about the great railways that span the United States and Canada.

And so he embarks on a 1100-mile railroad journey from Boston, Massachusetts, across the border to Toronto in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Along the way, he encounters ON TRACK Michael Portillo THE UNDATEABLES C4, 9pm FINDING the ideal partner isn’t straightforward at the best of times – everyone can certainly relate to that. But for some it’s a bit more complicated.

This hugely positive and inspiring show – which follows those with disabilities looking for a relationship – never fails to tug at the heartstrings.

In this episode we meet train enthusiast Richard, 31, who has Asperger syndrome and finds it hard to talk to girls. Then there’s Amber, who hasn’t been on a date since she had a major stroke eight years ago when she was 19. She had to learn to walk and talk again, and now has a speech disorder. “I want to meet my Prince Charming,” she says. “Or Shrek.”

But it’s Nick, 27, from Kent, who will charm you the most. He has Williams Syndrome, a genetic condition which means he has learning problems.

He has never had a serious relationship and would quite happily play on his drum kit all day and night.

But he’s just moved into his own flat and now he wants a girlfriend. He even knows which drawer he’d give her when she moves in. “I’m ready to fly,” he exclaims. As always, we’re nervous for the hopefuls, but as Nick heads out to a bowling alley with date Chloe, he works so hard to make her laugh, with such brilliant social skills, you’ll be impressed.

And as he slowly wins her over, you’ll be rooting for him so much that you might just stand up and start cheering. revolutionaries, feminists, pilgrims and witches while also riding some of the oldest and most breathtaking railway routes in the world.

But let’s just take a moment to discuss Michael’s amazing technicolour wardrobe. There are neon pinks, bright greens, yellow blazers and dazzling chinos that hurt your eyes. It’s genuinely thrilling to see what he will wear every day.

Not an inconspicuous traveller, he’s at one point accused of being a “Tory spy” by someone re-enacting the Boston Tea Party. But, as ever, Portillo rallies and joins in the fun.
