STUBBS IS OK FOR MK

- ALAN MARSHALL

MK DONS could turn to ex-Hibs boss Alan Stubbs as a replacement for the axed Robbie Neilson.

Former Tynecastle gaffer Neilson left the League One side after a 2-1 loss at Northampton on Saturday.

Neilson was appointed as Karl Robinson’s successor in December 2016, guiding them to a 12th-place finish last term.

But a run of one win in 11 league games saw the club slide into the drop zone.

Ex-Celtic star Stubbs has been out of work since leaving Rotherham in October 2016 and it’s understood the Scouser is set to be interviewed this week for the vacant post at Stadium MK.

Meanwhile, MK Dons captain Alex Gibley insists the players let Neilson down after they slipped into the relegation zone following the weekend loss.

Neilson’s club announced on Saturday night that his 13-month reign in charge had ended by ‘mutual consent’. Former Hearts assistant head coach Stevie Crawford and Neil MacFarlane, a one-time Tynecastle team-mate of Neilson’s, were also dismissed from the backroom staff.

But MK Dons star Gibley said the players were guilty of not doing enough to help Neilson keep his job.

He said: “Some people might think they’re doing okay, but clearly we’re not.

“It’s easy to point fingers, but it’s the players at the end of the day.

“We’re employed to be at our best and we’re clearly not if we are where we are in the league.”
