Singer Paul Young was in mourning last night after ex-model wife Stacey died following a two-year battle with brain cancer

SINGER Paul Young was in mourning last night after his wife lost her two-year battle with brain cancer.

Former model Stacey, 52, passed away at the family home in Hertfordshire.

Paul’s publicist said she died peacefully surrounded by her husband, 62, her four children and friends.

The pop star met Stacey on the video shoot for his second single, Come Back and Stay, in 1983.

They married in 1987 and have three children – daughters Levi and Layla, and son Grady.

The couple split in 2006, before getting back together again three years later.

In the time they were separated, Stacey had her fourth child, son Jude, with Israeli businessman Ilan Slazenger.

After the reconciliation, Paul became Jude’s stepdad.

The 80s superstar was besotted with Stacey despite their ups and downs.

In a 2014 interview, Paul said he was more in love with his wife than ever.

He said: “You have to work at marriage but it helps that I know we were meant to be together. I have known that since I met her.

“She is funny, she has a good sense of humour. She’s a little bit wild, a little mad – but I love that about her.”

Steve Norman, founding member of Spandau Ballet, tweeted: “So shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Stacey Young.

“She was such a character and so down to earth. She featured in the Spandau video for Fight For Ourselves some years back.”

EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer, former Emmerdale star Sheree Murphy and comedian Julian Clary were among other stars to pay tribute to Stacey.

Paul was due to start a solo tour in Exeter on Thursday, although it is thought these gigs will now be postponed.
