My move was Well up staged by Hartley
TOM ALDRED admits his loan switch from Bury to Motherwell last week was overshadowed by new team-mate Peter Hartley becoming an internet sensation.
The Fir Park club converted defender Hartley’s loan signing from Blackpool into a permanent deal and celebrated the fact by making a spoof of the Manchester United video which announced the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
The footage of Hartley playing and smashing a toy piano – which is on sale on e-bay and has sailed past the £500 mark – went viral and has already been viewed more than 6.6million times.
As a result Aldred’s arrival on loan from Bury went unnoticed but the 27-year-old is determined to make his mark. He said: “To be fair they blew my announcement out of the water with Pete’s video!
“It was funny, I really enjoyed it. For a club like United to get involved is great.
“It’s everywhere – I saw it on Sky Sports News last night.
“Pete might get a move on the back of that!”
Aldred made his debut in last Saturday’s Scottish Cup win over derby rivals Hamilton and he believes the Steelmen – who lost to Celtic in the Betfred Cup Final – are capable of more Hampden heroics.
He said: “We’re in the top six just now and we’ll push on.
“The lads have already been to a cup final so to do it again would be unbelievable.”
