STEVE CLARKE has branded the Scottish Cup replay as ‘amateurish’ after Kilmarnock’s schedule was ripped apart.
Killie were supposed to play St Johnstone at Rugby Park last Wednesday before entertaining Dundee this midweek – but both have been cancelled because their opponents will be in cup action.
Now Clarke’s men will have just one game in the next seven days – today’s trip to face Aberdeen – and the Killie boss believes the SFA have to re-think the system which allows clubs to pick and choose when they re-schedule cup ties.
He said: “When you’re working through January in the winter break, it’s always in the back of your mind that there’s the chance of five games in a fortnight. So you prepare your team for that. Now we’ve lost both home games against St Johnstone and Dundee here at Rugby Park.
“If you lose one of them because of a Scottish Cup replay, that’s fine but the authorities in Scotland have to have a look at the organisation of their fixtures. It doesn’t seem right and it is a little bit amateurish.”
Clarke reckons Dons counterpart Derek McInnes doesn’t deserve stick for his Old Firm run of results.
He said: “I know people talk about the record against the Old Firm but you get what you get against them.
“Derek’s record against Kilmarnock is good so we need to put a dent in that this weekend.”
