MICHY MAY HAVE BLUES FUTURE

-

MICHY BATSHUAYI hit a double to help send Chelsea through – then found himself in limbo ahead of Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

The Belgian striker netted a 30th-minute opener and a deflected second two minutes before the break.

Last week Antonio Conte – hunting Roma’s Edin Dzeko – said Batshuayi would be loaned out if a replacement came in. The Blues boss now claims Batshuayi could stay as third choice.

He said: “We don’t have three, four, five strikers, we have two – Alvaro Morata and Batshuayi.

“Morata is out and there is Eden Hazard if I decide to play a different striker.

“It’s important to score but at the same time very important the striker works well for the team.

“Michy in this way improved a lot.”

Marcus Alonso curled in a 71st-minute third as Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side were put to the sword.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez suggested fans are well aware of his struggle to improve the side with owner Mike Ashley unwilling to invest as he prepares to sell.

Benitez said: “Our fans are very clever, they know what is going on. We have to be sure I don’t let them down.

“We have to be sure we are on the same page and working hard, trying to improve the team.”
