When they all piled on top I struggled for a breath but they’re not as heavy as Grado

JASON CUMMINGS reckons he was praying for the police to save him from suffocation after breaking his Rangers duck.

The livewire striker enjoyed a raucous celebration with jubilant Ibrox fans after bagging the winner in his new team’s win over Ross County in Dingwall.

Cummings had only been on the field five minutes when he cracked his effort. Savouring a first top-flight goal the 22-year-old slid on his knees in front of the supporters only to be mobbed.

Cummings went from party mood to panic mode but insists the pile-up was nothing compared to his infamous grapple with Scots wrestling star Grado at Hibs’ training ground last April. He said: “I thought I’d died! Honestly I didn’t think I was going to get up and I was praying for the coppers to come and get them off me.

“It was good for the first 10 seconds then I couldn’t breathe but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I was crushed more with Grado, he’s a bit bigger.

“I don’t know how many were on top of me, I just remember a big pair of jeans in my face.

“I did a knee slide and the momentum of the wet pitch took me into the fans. So I was kind of stuck but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It was fantastic and I’m buzzing. The fans were different class and I was saying to the boys if I got on I would have to score and go sliding into the fans.

“To be fair even at Ibrox I got a great reception and they were singing my name today every time I was down there.

“They’ve been different class with me so that goal was for them.

“I’d scored a few against them and now I’m here to score a few for them. They’ve taken me in with open arms so I appreciate that. The fans were unbelievable for the 90 minutes. Different class, hats off.”

Cummings was also able to pull his Joker celebration out the bag and added: “I’ve done it a few times since I got the tattoo although I nearly forgot to do it because I was going so mad.

“I managed to do it so hopefully there’s a few good pictures.

“The telly cameras were behind me though, I should have thought about that!

“But the fans deserved the celebration, travelling away up here, so I celebrated with them. It’s a fair trek and it got them the three points so they were happy as well.”
