Face yoga .. giving your skin a workout
With celebs now enjoying face yoga, expert Karen Gider gives tips on what exercises work
WE’VE probably all heard of the potential benefits of yoga on your body and wellbeing – but perhaps don’t know there are exercises for your face.
Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow are said to do face yoga – used to strengthen the 57 muscles in the face.
Advanced face yoga teacher Karen Gider has brought the techniques to Scotland.
Mum-of-two Karen, 49, of Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, who also works as a model, trained with a leading expert in face yoga, and said she’s now Scotland’s only advanced teacher in the techniques.
She said: “Face yoga is a natural way of looking and feeling younger and healthier with an added sense of relaxation and wellbeing.
“It’s a combination of face exercises, face massage, face acupressure and face relaxation. It also focuses on wellbeing techniques for the mind, body and soul.
“It uses the most effective traditional techniques and the latest research to give safe, natural anti-ageing results.
“You get to make funny faces that keep us young looking, restart the natural collagen and elastin and increase the circulation – we are then left with a rosy, glowing lifted face.
“The jowls can become tighter, cheeks fuller and lines around the eyes will diminish.”
She says the exercises have made a real difference to toning up her jaw line and have also helped clear her problem skin.
“My motto is heal your face with your hands.”
Karen runs group classes, private lessons, retreats and workshops in face yoga. For info go to www.faceyogascotland.weebly.com, visit her Instagram account @face_ yoga_scotland or email karen.gider@gmail.com
