STUART DUFF admits he will feel torn when his old clubs Aberdeen and Dundee United clash in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

The 36-year-old former midfielder came through the youth ranks at United before enjoying a two-year spell with hometown team the Dons from 2008 until 2010.

Duff will feel mixed emotions this weekend – and is preparing for banter with fans in his ambassador role ahead of the fifth-round tie at Pittodrie.

He said: “I was brought up an Aberdeen fan so my heart is still with the club.

“In saying that I’ve also got a lot of affection for United after nearly 10 years there and remains friends with people at Tannadice.

“I’ve really been enjoying the ambassador role at Pittodrie, with greats like Joe Harper. It reminds you just how big a club Aberdeen are.

“I enjoy having the banter with the Dons fans. They know I had a long spell with United so I might have some wind-ups on Sunday.

“This fixture’s been sorely missed since United went down to the Championship.”

Duff would love to see the Dons go all the way in the Cup – and United back in the Premiership.

He said: “The ideal result would be for Aberdeen to go on and win the Scottish Cup and United to be promoted. That would be win, win.

“Derek McInnes took them so close to winning the Cup last term. I’ve a feeling this could be their year.”
