‘If Smith is such a good boss then why don’t the Rangers board put him back in charge at Ibrox instead of the national team?’
is being considered for the Scotland manager’s job. This was a man chased out of England with Everton.
“In his last stint at Ibrox his style was correctly labelled as anti-football. The only time he was successful is when he had a massive cheque book.”
Paul Keenan, Denny, provided us with a more tongue in cheek analysis on the whole selection process. He said: “Surely Graeme Murty must be in with a shout for the Scotland manager’s job.
“He has consolidated third place in the league and has managed to scrape a couple of draws against Celtic. Murty is the man.” Still on the subject of Murty and George
McGeouch, Milton, said: “Murty has lost more games this season than Pedro Caixinha yet nobody seems to have batted en eyelid.”
George Love, Glasgow, e-mailed with a more serious candidate for Scotland. He said: “The Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke is the ideal man for the Scotland job. He has great talent and has been a success with all the clubs he has been involved in.
“We should give Clarke a chance instead of going back to old managers.”
Neale Harvey, e-mailed: “Am I missing something here but with Stewart Regan gone wouldn’t the simple thing be for the SFA to swallow a bit of humble pie and get on the blower to Gordon Strachan?”
James McLaughlin, Wishaw, said: “How can the SFA decide to get rid of Strachan and then go for Smith? I thought this was supposed to be a brave new dawn for Scottish football?”
On to Celtic now and James Colven, Arbroath, said: “So Scott Brown thinks he is now a marked man?
“He has been involved in enough spats during his career to make that sound laughable.”
Meanwhile, Hearts boss Craig Levein’s comments on Brown riled Harry Fitzpatrick, Ontario, Canada.
Harry said: “Levein has a cheek making all these accusations against Brown. This coming from a man who attacked his own player on the field.”
