Making it easier to seek help sooner rather than later
AN IMPORTANT part of early diagnosis is helping people get reliable and accurate information on the signs and symptoms of cancer. To help do this, Cancer Research UK runs a number of campaigns and initiatives to spread the word. Its nurse helpline gives one-to-one support from dedicated cancer nurses.
Around 14% of the enquiries they deal with are about warning signs.
The nurses are often able to give people the nudge they need to go to the doctor – or put their worries into perspective.
Talking through what might happen if they decide to visit the GP takes some of the fear out of a possible cancer diagnosis, so that those with early signs feel more confident to seek help.
If you’re worried and would like to talk to a nurse, call freephone 0808 800 4040, 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

Breakthroughs in cancer are bringing more good news every day and we’ve teamed up with Cancer Research UK to raise awareness of the impact that research is having on those whose lives have been affected by the disease. The good news is that if cancer is diagnosed early – before it’s had the chance to grow or spread – it is more likely to be treated successfully.
