A MURDER victim lay undiscovered for more than two weeks before he was found.

And it was a further 10 days before his grieving family were told his death was suspicious by police.

Tragic Alan Glancy was found by a concerned member of his family, who went to his Edinburgh home to check up on him after nobody had heard from him.

Police initially told the 47-year-old’s family they suspected his death was drug related after he was found on February 1.

But following a post mortem last Friday, it has been established Hibs fan Alan, had been stabbed to death.

A family member, who asked not to be named, said: “Nobody had seen him for a couple of weeks so his sister-in-law went to his flat in Port Hamilton to check on him.

“The family were told it was probably drugs, as he was a user, but on Saturday they were told by police he had stab wounds.

“His injuries weren’t obvious as it would appear he has been lying dead for over a week if not longer.

“The last known sighting was on January 9.”

DCI David Pinkney of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team said: “We are investigating the last known whereabouts of Alan and are keen to speak to anyone who might be able to assist us with this.

“We are aware Alan attended a medical appointment on January 9 and we are looking for anyone who has seen Alan or spoken to him between then and February 1 to come forward.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with Alan’s family and they are currently being supported by specially trained officers.”

He added: “We are keen to speak to anyone with information who can assist our inquiries as we try to establish Alan’s movements prior to his death.

“Officers will be carrying out additional patrols to offer reassurance. Anyone with concerns or questions can speak to them.”

Anyone who has information can contact police on 101, quoting incident reference number 2507 of 1 February or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
