Gun charge student ‘a tenant from hell’
Landlord says Scot on US attack rap held noisy parties and left luxury pad with big repairs bill
A SCOTS medical student facing gun and assault charges in the US has been branded a tenant from hell.
It was claimed Tony Boyd upset his neighbours by throwing noisy parties. It was also alleged he caused more than £1000 of damage to his luxury rented flat.
Boyd, who faces trial in the US for allegedly attacking girlfriend Sophie Kelly and firing a gun at her, moved out of his £1895-a-month pad in the swanky Park area of Glasgow last month.
Landlord David Hook said that during the year Boyd lived in the flat, neighbours complained about noise from parties, which resulted in police being called.
Glasgow City Council’s antisocial behaviour team were also involved.
Hook claimed he has been left with a hefty bill to repair damage to the two-bedroom apartment.
He added: “I had a number of complaints from neighbours.
“There was a constant racket of doors banging, beer bottles outside and cars racing up and down the road. Upstairs neighbours, who have a young child, emailed me at 3am begging me to do something.
“Two warnings were registered with the letting agent for antisocial behaviour.”
Glasgow University student Boyd, 23, said he had only been visited by police once and never had any dealings with the council.
He said: “The police came to my apartment on one occasion when I had some colleagues over for a few drinks. There was some slight damage to the floor.
“The flat was left as it was when I moved in.”
Boyd, from Troon, Ayrshire, denies discharging a firearm, two counts of battery and one of damaging a property in Wisconsin.
Sophie, a vet from Inverkeithing, Fife, claims Boyd, who travelled to Wisconsin to help her settle into a new job, attacked her and her friend and fired a gun at them in August.
