ADRIAN BEVINGTON will prioritise building bridges with the country’s clubs and pushing the nation to Euro 2020 if he gets the job as SFA chief executive.

The 46-year-old is among the candidates to fill the post vacated by Stewart Regan.

Bevington has a sparkling CV having worked at the FA for more than a decade alongside seven England managers including Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Cappello.

He also spent the last three years undertaking influential consultancy work, including planning Wales’ behind-the-scenes preparations for Euro 2016.

He is a wanted man with a host of clubs currently hunting his services as he prepares to return from a short break from the game.

Bevington has key experience of football’s commercial set-ups including sponsorship and TV deals.

He also has strong knowledge of the current situation in the Scottish game and would work towards two key goals if approached and appointed by the Hampden hierarchy.

A source close to the Teessider is convinced there will be instant benefits on all fronts from his appointment and said last night: “If Adrian goes to Scotland I’m pretty sure his priority would be to get the international team to the next couple of tournaments.

“But from my experience of him, you can also be sure he’d want to meet with anyone who is a stakeholder across the game, the clubs. And not just those at the top.

“He would also go and see the main chairmen and managers at those clubs as he’d want to find out what is working for them and what is not.”
