Dens ace Roarie: We need to put things right for boss

- ALAN MARSHALL

ROARIE DEACON admits Dundee owe Neil McCann after their midweek collapse at Kilmarnock.

The Dark Blues looked to be in command against 10-man Killie on Tuesday night as they went 2-1 up with just over 15 minutes left.

But boss McCann was left furious as his side were stunned by late strikes from Kris Boyd and Iain Wilson to hand the Rugby Park hosts a dramatic victory.

The manager even branded his side’s showing in those final minutes as “unprofessional” as they threw away a victory that would have moved them five points clear of the bottom two.

Now midfielder Deacon has promised McCann there will be a reaction when they run out to face Partick Thistle at Firhill today.

He said: “The gaffer shows a lot of faith in us and when we go on the pitch we need to repay that – especially so this weekend because it was a hard defeat to take on Tuesday.

“We were 2-1 up against 10 men so it’s true what the manager said.

“We weren’t professional in terms of seeing out the game.

“There’s nothing we can do about Tuesday now. We just need to try to put things right against Thistle.

“After the game the manager obviously wasn’t happy at all – and we weren’t happy ourselves as we let a big opportunity slip away from us.

“That could have been us bridging the gap. It could have been us getting further away from the bottom end and closer to the top.

“All that we can do now is look to correct what we did wrong. One hundred per cent we’ve now got a point to prove.

“Training has been sharp this week. Everyone has looked up for it and everyone wants to put Tuesday behind us and pick up three points.”
