Gers sold me on my new deal

- ANTHONY HAGGERTY

JOSH WINDASS has revealed he signed a new deal with Rangers because he was sold on the Ibrox club’s lofty ambitions by director of football Mark Allen.

The attacker penned a new deal with a one-year extension that ties him to the Light Blues until 2021.

Windass was linked with a move away from Ibrox but he insists he had no intention of quitting Glasgow.

The 24-year-old said: “It’s a good feeling to be rewarded with the form I have been in and hopefully I can carry it on.

“I had a couple of years left on my current contract anyway so I was never going to leave.

“To get a renewal to that is nice. One of the main reasons behind me renewing my contract was being told by Mark and the club about the vision and the direction they want to go in.”

Windass has started every game since Graeme Murty was first named caretaker manager in October and then permanent boss in December.

The ex-Accrington Stanley star has scored 12 goals in 30 appearances and netted his first hat-trick last month in Gers’ 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Fraserburgh.

Now Windass has vowed to hit the 20-goal mark as he heaped praised on Murty for having faith in him and his ability.

He said: “The gaffer has shown the belief in me that I always had in myself. Hopefully we can carry our relationship on and push the club forward together.

“I always feel I have been able to play well under any circumstances but the boss has come in and shown a lot of belief in me. I feel I have been played in the position I like to play in and I have improved in terms of goals and assists.

“I want to hit 20 goals this season so hopefully I can get that before the end of the campaign. It’s a big ask but fingers crossed I can do it.”
