THERESA May’s former deputy yesterday demanded that David Davis publish evidence about the impact of leaving the EU to kill off “conspiracy theories”.

Damian Green said that failing to reveal damaging economic forecasts would leave Brexit reliant on blind faith.

The fomer First Secretary of State accused former colleagues of turning a deaf ear to the effect of Brexit and demanded the public had the right to know the risks.

Green told the BBC: “We can all argue about economic forecasts and none of them are 100 per cent accurate but you have to rely on them and if you reject evidence you don’t like then you will end up with faith-based policies.”

Brexit Secretary Davis has come under fire for refusing to publish analysis on how leaving the EU could affect industry.

His department stressed that they would not publish information that is sensitive to negotiations.

Green said: “If analysis is being produced then publish it.”

Green poured scorn on Brexiters who have accused civil servants of trying to steer the process to the softest Brexit possible. He said: “I reject all the conspiracy theories that suggest there’s some sort of plot inside the official machine to thwart the will of the people.

“There’s a great problem of politicians who won’t accept evidence.”

Green was sacked in December for lying to colleagues after denying pornography was found on his office computer in 2008. He also faced claims of sexual harassment.
