main England dangermen. He said: “They are outstanding – world class in terms of what they do in attack.

“We have to make sure we know where they are on the field, put pressure on them and not give them easy options.

“Our focus on defence is down to the respect we have for the English team and how well coached they are.

“They have some excellent plays and a very good set-piece.

“Over the last two years they have only lost one game in 24 so their expectation will be generated from within.

“They are a great team with huge resources. The players are at the top of their game and they have belief.”

Townsend faces a battle of wits with Eddie Jones and he has huge respect for the England coach. He said: “Eddie’s a brilliant coach. The last two years have shown that in what he has done with this England team – particularly the consistency.

“He has a great coaching team around him too.”

Townsend revealed he will bring up England’s rush-defence tactics with ref Nigel Owens tomorrow.

They have been accused of persistently dashing offside at lineouts and scrums.

And the Scotland coach said: “It’s definitely something we have highlighted to our players.

“It will be interesting to see whether they stay onside. You have to make sure you stay 10 metres back off lineouts before the ball is delivered. It is down to the refereeing team.” RYAN WILSON admits Scotland must come flying out of the traps if they are to shock England in the Calcutta Cup.

Wales and France both surged into big early leads against the Scots in the last two Six Nations tussles.

After the stunning fightback against Les Bleus at Murrayfield, Glasgow Warriors skipper Wilson wants to ensure it’s Scotland who capitalise on a fast start on Saturday.

He said: “The first 20 minutes are massive. We were able to grind our way back into the last game but we want to be on top from the start.

“If we can get momentum straight away the crowd will respond and that helps us.

“We have to come up with things that will surprise England – it has to happen sooner rather than later.”

England are tournament favourites but Wilson knows the Scots must focus on themselves to avenge last season’s 61-21 thrashing at Murrayfield.

He said: “We have to impose our game on them because we are hugely proud of our record on home turf.

“We are determined to protect what we have built up at Murrayfield.

“We’ve spoken about the heavy defeat at Twickenham. We have vowed it will never happen again. We will use the memory as fuel.”

● Scotland centre Matt Scott will rejoin Edinburgh for a second spell on a two-year deal this summer.

The 27-year-old 39-cap star revealed he was “disappointed” not to be offered an extension at English Premiership Gloucester but excited to push for sliverware with his hometown club later this year. GARY ANDERSON admits he needs a big Berlin to kickstart his Premier League darts campaign.

The Scottish hero heads into a tartan battle against Peter Wright in Germany tonight after a troubled start to his campaign.

Anderson has been hampered by back issues but his health is improving and now his results need to do the same.

With just two points on the board after three games the Musselburgh man needs to find top gear beside the Brandenburg Gate.

Ando said: “I’m not really one for looking at the league table or studying the form.

“I know in myself how things are going and two points from three weeks isn’t ideal.

“Obviously my back has been a difficult thing to deal with. It was a problem on week one but the painkillers have helped since then. Not completely, I still have a couple of issues that are hindering my game.

“But we’re getting there. I’ve got to kick on now though. It’s a different league this year and everyone is taking points off each other.

“What you don’t want is to get sucked into the relegation swirler.

“The Premier League is a marathon not a sprint but it’s much more enjoyable if you have points on the board and can afford a bad week now and again.”

Wright is set for huge backing from his adoring public in Germany and Snakebite also needs to get back on track after a patchy weekend at the Euro qualifiers.

He said: “It’s obviously going to be a tough game. Gary’s back is a lot better now and the way he played last week against Michael van Gerwen, he will be disappointed with the loss.

“I’ve been trying to get some practice in. I didn’t do well at the weekend.

“Mentally I’m prepared for the match with Gary, it should be a good game.

“The fans here in Germany make me feel welcome, it’s great.

“Gary and players like that always bring the best out of me.

“The first few weeks have been a bit up and down. I changed darts and might try another set against Gary but I’ll see how they go in practice first.

“I’ve got three points which isn’t bad. I’ve been against some good players and I’ve got more to go.”
