Meghan and Harry in ‘racist’ anthrax threat
Counter-terror cops called in over white powder sent with vile letter
MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have been sent racist hate mail containing white powder purporting to be anthrax.
Counter-terror officers were called in after the package sparked a security alert at Kensington Palace, where the couple live.
The powder was found to be harmless but the incident is being investigated as a racially motivated crime.
Actress Meghan, 36, and Harry, 33, have been informed.
No arrests have been made.
It is the first security alert surrounding Harry’s fiancee, who has her own armed squad from the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Command providing round-the-clock protection.
The letter arrived at St James’s Palace on February 12, the day before the couple visited Edinburgh.
It will be examined for forensic clues such as DNA and fingerprints.
Police are thought to be investigating a possible link to a package containing white powder which was sent to Parliament, reportedly to
the office of Home Secretary Amber Rudd. That was also found to be harmless.
Scotland Yard said: “Police are investigating after a package containing a substance was delivered to St James’s Palace on Monday, February12.
“The substance was tested and confirmed as non-suspicious. Officers are investigating an allegation of malicious communications relating to the same package, and it is being treated as a racist hate crime. “The matter is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command. “No arrests – inquiries continue.” Royal security officers are already on high alert ahead of Harry and Meghan’s wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19. The officers are focusing on potential threats ranging from stalkers to possible terrorist attacks.
