WHOOP DE DUPE

As Aldi launch another range to rival luxurious brand Jo Malone, we look at popular bargain luxe products FRIDAY £305

- ANNA BURNSIDE

JO MALONE, patron saint of the delicious smell, has a new rival. It’s not another perfumier – it’s Aldi.

The German discount chain won the hearts of budget shoppers last year when they produced bargain versions of Jo’s candles, room fragrances and reed diffusers.

This year, just in time for Mother’s Day, they’ve expanded the range to include perfume, body lotion, body cream and shower gel in three fragrances: pomegranate, freesia & pear and lime, basil & mandarin.

But Aldi’s creations are not the only spectacular deals for those who like the luxe lifestyle on a limited budget. ALDI’S deluxe dupes are presented in Malone-style cream and black boxes with black ribbons. And the savings are nearly as sweet as the scents.

The eau de toilette (100ml) is compared to Jo Malone’s Body creme (175ml) is against Jo Malone’s And the hand and body wash (250ml) and hand and body lotion (250ml) are just each (the originals are and SCALY knees and gnarly elbows are not a good look. But is it really necessary to spend upwards of £30 to buff them down to something a little more presentable?

Palmer’s cocoa butter scrub lacks the glam packaging appeal of the Neom version but does an excellent job of deflaking the areas of concern. Palmer’s cocoa butter body scrub, Neom real luxury body scrub, AUSTRALIAN brand Aesop is the handwash of choice for those who like natural ingredients, functional packaging and scarily high prices. It makes the user feel amazing.

H&M’s Conscious range has some of the same eco credentials, smells pretty good and comes with a high level of bathroom shelf appeal. H&M sweet lemon handwash, Aesop Resurrection handwash, DIPTYQUE candles are even more luxurious than Jo Malone’s.

If you’ve ever wondered what celebrity smells like, stick your nose in one of these. Madonna and Jennifer Lopez, left, insist on them in their dressing rooms when they’re on tour.

Japanese brand Muji may not be as economical as Aldi, but their fig candle is still a mighty saving on the original.

Muji green fig and coconut, Diptyque figuier, LIZ Earle’s hot cloth cleanser is a classic for a reason. It smells amazing, has a delicious creamy texture and really works. No one could feel grubby after a session with that stuff.

Superdrug’s economy version does not have the same levels of essential oils but it does a fine job of taking off makeup and degunking the pores.
