QUEENS PARK are set to block a proposed sale of Hampden if there’s any risk to retaining the National Stadium as their permanent home.

The Record yesterday revealed the SFA want to buy the Mount Florida base from the Spiders in a cut-price £2million deal.

Members of the amateur club met on Wednesday night to discuss the approach from the SFA over the sale of the 115-year old ground which they presently rent.

That lease between the parties ends in 2020 and the SFA are looking to either continue hosting matches at Hampden or move to Murrayfield.

Queen’s president Alan Hutchison asked members for their views and Supporters Association secretary Keith McAllister says any agreement must guarantee that the club continue to play at Hampden.

He said: “Selling Hampden is not something we expected to hear and the meeting was a chance to tell those with Queen’s Park at heart what could happen.

“We would love to keep Hampden as our home and any deal should ensure Scotland’s oldest club continue to play there. It is a magical piece of Scottish football that an amateur side play their games at such a big arena.”

McAllister is adamant any sale of the ground would only be stonewalled if the future of the 150-year-old club was put at risk.

He said: “The overriding factor in any complex deal involving a football club is that the club survives.”
