It’s no more Mr Nice Guy as Jags boss wants fight

- ANTHONY HAGGERTY

ALAN ARCHIBALD says Partick Thistle must stop playing “nice” as they are in a relegation dogfight.

Archibald admits the Jags are still hurting from last weekend’s 2-1 Premiership defeat to fellow bottom-six strugglers Dundee at Firhill.

Dark Blues striker Simon Murray bagged two goals in the last six minutes to sink Thistle who had taken the lead through Conor Sammon’s first-half strike.

And Archibald said: “Even now it still hurts a bit in terms of how we lost. There was a bit of shock in the dressing room.

“We spoke to the lads and got it out of our system.

“We told the players the matches we had won this year were won very well and their game management had been excellent.

“The game on Saturday was too nice for both teams, it was more of a footballing match, it wasn’t the scrap it usually tends to be down at the bottom of the league.

“There was good football played by both teams and we got drawn into that. It was a bit like the Thistle of old and we’d changed that. We’ve had 1-0s and seen things out so it was disappointing.

“We were just a little bit too nice and open towards the end when we should have shut up shop.”

Partick head to Hamilton tomorrow, sitting 10th in the table, just one point above their opponents. Archibald added: “It will be more of a battle and less football.”
