Private school sir preyed on teens
A MATHS teacher at a top private school has been jailed for three years for filming young girls sexually abusing themselves.
Craig Wood, 52, exposed himself and encouraged youngsters to play a perverted online video game, a court heard.
He also downloaded almost 1000 indecent images and films of children over a period of more than two-and-half years.
The teacher, from Glenburn, Paisley, preyed on girls aged between nine and 15 before he was arrested.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard Wood, who taught at Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow, yesterday appeared for sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of making indecent photographs by downloading them, possessing illegal images and forcing children to expose themselves to him.
His lawyer told the court that Wood, who previously worked at Paisley Grammar School, claimed he may have Asperger syndrome and asked the court to have a psychological assessment carried out before he was sentenced.
But Sheriff Susan Sinclair rejected the request, telling Wood: “What difference does it make to the sentence?
“It does not give me more sentencing options.”
The sheriff added that he had abused his teaching position to target young girls.
She told Wood, who was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely: “There is no suitable alternative to a sentence of imprisonment.
“Had it not been for your guilty plea, the sentence would have been for four years.”
