RYDER CUP captain Thomas Bjorn and Solheim Cup skipper Catriona Matthew will team up for the GolfSixes.

A number of changes have been made to the six-hole match play tournament for its second year.

And the Captains Team of Bjorn and Scots star Matthew is one of four wild card selections introduced.

There will also be an England women’s team comprising Georgia Hall and Charley Hull and a European women’s team featuring England’s Mel Reid and Norway’s Suzann Pettersen.

The fourth wild card team will be revealed towards the end of next month alongside the 11 men’s national teams who qualify automatically.

Danish duo Lucas Bjerregaard and Thorbjorn Olesen will also defend the title they won last year.

The 16 teams will compete for a prize fund of a million Euros at Centurion Club in St Albans from May 5-6, with the winners getting 100,000 Euros each.

Bjorn said: “It’s hugely important to try to break down the barriers that have existed between the men’s and women’s games.

“When this opportunity arose to play as Ryder Cup captain, I thought it was only right to speak to Catriona as the Solheim Cup captain about forming a team.”

Scottish legend Matthew added: “All tours are trying to think of ways to make golf different and encourage a younger audience. This whole concept is exciting.”
