I JOINED CELTIC TO WIN MEDALS

- MICHAEL GANNON m.gannon@dailyrecord.co.uk

CHARLY MUSONDA’S heart was set on Celtic as he’s determined to start his medal collection.

The Chelsea loanee is dreaming of glory at Parkhead following his 18-month move from Stamford Bridge.

Belgian ace Musonda is yet to get his hands on a trophy but the 21-year-old has his sights set on lifting the Scottish Cup.

The Hoops are looking to land a last-four spot by beating Morton at Parkhead tomorrow and the playmaker is keen to play a key role on the road to Hampden.

Musonda said: “It would be unbelievable to win my first trophy at Celtic. That’s why I’m here. This is a club that constantly deals with the pressure to win trophies.

“To be a part of that would be fantastic. It would be an amazing experience, especially so young.

“You want to be part of a winning team and to be 21 and have the chance to win trophies is an exciting position to be in. Hopefully we can win trophies this year.

“I’d be very happy to achieve that and I’ll be very proud to be part of a club that wins trophies.” Musonda has shown flashes of the sublime skill that persuaded Brendan Rodgers to push the boat out to bring him to Scotland.

But the Belgium Under-21 star hasn’t had it all his own way as Scottish sides have made life awkward for the attacker.

Musonda admitted it’s been far from a breeze but learning how to break down stubborn defences is one of the reasons he decided to make the Celtic switch.

He said: “The challenge here is tough and unique because every team sets up to try to stop you.

“I enjoy this challenge though, to try to break down teams who set up to block us and stop us winning.

“We know we have to be more patient unless you manage to get an early lead. That’s going to be a very good learning curve for me.”
