ANDO AIMS FOR RUN

- CRAIG SWAN

GARY ANDERSON wants to kick on from his UK Open success and pile more pain on Daryl Gurney.

The Scot heads for the sixth night of the Premier League having secured his first major TV championship in almost two years last weekend.

Anderson faces the Northern Irishman in Leeds and the two-time champion wants to maintain his momentum by extending the winless run of Gurney.

He said: “I was happy with how I played over the weekend and it was great to win the UK Open.

“Hopefully I can keep that going now in the Premier League because every game is important.

“Daryl’s a similar style player to me so there should be lots of 180s and it will be great for the crowd.”

Table-topper Michael Smith and world champion Rob Cross also clash at the First Direct Arena.

Smith has won his first four games to sit two points clear and said: “It should be a really good game. Rob’s had an amazing year and come back into form so I know it’s going to be tough.

“I still don’t feel I’ve been at my best yet so I’m aiming to improve. But so far I’ve been taking my chances and I’ll be trying to do the same this week.”

Two players tied on six points, reigning champ Michael van Gerwen and Simon Whitlock, meet while world No.2 Peter Wright faces Mensur Suljovic and Raymond van Barneveld takes on Gerwyn Price.
