Walker: Celts will keep faith with Scott

-

ANDY WALKER reckons Scott Sinclair will start at Ibrox as Brendan Rodgers puts his faith in the winger’s Old Firm record.

The 28-year-old’s recent patchy form and last weekend’s fine display by his replacement Odsonne Edouard against Morton have given the Celtic manager a selection headache.

But former Hoops striker Walker believes Rodgers should stick with a man whose experience will strike fear into their rivals – and he also believes Callum McGregor is worth a recall in the role behind Moussa Dembele.

Walker said: “For this occasion, I believe Celtic will go with the tried and tested.

“There are a number of injuries but I’m sure it’ll be four at the back, two midfielders, and then three behind Moussa Dembele.

“James Forrest is a stick-on while I would go with McGregor behind Dembele and play Sinclair.

“I know Sinclair has not been as impressive as he was last season but he has done well at Ibrox, has good memories of the fixture, good experience and ability.

“I don’t feel Edouard has played enough games to merit a start against Rangers, especially as Celtic know a win puts any talk of title races to bed.

“Sinclair has the pace which can trouble Rangers. If the Rangers lads see his name on the teamsheet, they would be concerned with his pace and the fact he can create and score.”

Rodgers also has a big decision to make in midfield with Aussie playmaker Tom Rogic back from injury.

He started last week’s Scottish Cup win over the Ton but Walker would rather see big-game player McGregor get the nod for Ibrox.

He said: “For me, the bigger call is Rogic or McGregor. I’d opt for the latter. He has played well in big games, scoring in the Champions League against Bayern Munich and then against Zenit.

“He can trust McGregor or Rogic. Both have scored at Ibrox in Celtic’s last two visits.

“But given Rogic isn’t long back from injury, I feel McGregor will get the nod and so will Sinclair alongside shoo-ins Forrest and Dembele.”

Walker is looking forward to a thrilling contest and believes Rangers have a real opportunity to grab a priceless triumph over their rivals.

A win would put the Ibrox side just three points behind the champions, albeit having played a game more, and he has been impressed by the Rangers revival under Graeme Murty.
