Expat’s dismembered body was dumped in bin
A YOUNG woman who stabbed a Scots gran 24 times before dismembering her body has been found guilty of the brutal murder.
Expat Sandra Malcolm, 74, was viciously attacked in her home in Cape Town, South Africa, in April 2015, after she woke up when Sheree Prince broke into the property.
The court heard Sandra offered to phone an ambulance for the burglar, who was 18 at the time, when she noticed that she had a foot injury.
But Prince, who said she feared the pensioner was going to phone the police, turned on Sandra and repeatedly stabbed her.
The cold-blooded killer then decapitated her victim and hacked up the body before dumping it in a wheelie bin.
Prince, now 22, admitted the brutal attack and was convicted at the Western Cape High Court earlier this week. She was also found guilty of two charges of housebreaking and one of theft.
Judge Bruce Langa said the “horrifying” way in which Prince killed Sandra would count heavily against her when she is sentenced next month.
He said: “The accused totally dismembered the deceased. She removed her head and all the main limbs – legs, arms and knees – completely.”
The judge said it showed the murder “was planned and she wanted to dispose of the body”.
Advocate Leandra Adams, defending, said the murder “happened on the spur of the moment” and was not premeditated.
Prince, who had burnt her foot in an earlier incident, told the court she showed the injury to her victim, who gave her an antiseptic liquid mixed with water to wash the wound.
The killer added: “She said she was going to call an ambulance. I said ‘no’ and stabbed her in her chest. She fell to the ground.
“I wanted to leave but saw her trying to get up. I then killed her.”
Sandra, who was originally from Monifieth near Dundee but had lived in South Africa for 35 years, is survived by two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
