Wage up... at a price
ON A HIGH Mollie King on Strictly AN MP has clashed with Sainsbury’s over pay changes.
The supermarket are to increase pay for shop-floor staff by about eight per cent to £9.20 an hour – making them Britain’s highest-paying grocer.
But they admit some workers will lose premium rates of pay for working on a Sunday.
Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh has written to Sainsbury’s boss Mike Coupe accusing the chain of using the pay rise as a “smokescreen for a whole array of deplorable decisions that will severely impact the salaries and welfare of many of your longstanding and most loyal staff”.
But Sainsbury’s said any staff who face being out of pocket will be guaranteed the shortfall for 18 months when there will be another pay review.
