PAUL STURROCK insists he can help take promotion-chasing Dundee United forward in his new role as their chief scout in England.

The United legend spent 15 years at Tannadice as a player before going on to manage the club from 1998 until 2000.

Sturrock also enjoyed spells at Plymouth, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Swindon, Southend and Yeovil during his 15-year managerial career down south.

New chairman Mike Martin has now brought the 61-year-old back to use his contacts and knowledge of the English game to source players for United as they bid to return to the Premiership.

Sturrock said: “I am delighted to be back working for my club.

“I met with chairman Mike Martin and manager Csaba Laszlo earlier this week.

“And I felt we all shared the same belief on the best way forward for Dundee United.

“I look forward to working hard and using my knowledge of the English game to bring talent to the club.”

Laszlo’s men are currently fourth in the Championship and trail leaders St Mirren by 17 points with three games in hand.

Sturrock will report directly to the manager who insists the future is bright for United.

Laszlo said: “This is a very positive step for the club.

“With Paul on board scouting the English market and bringing possible signings at all levels, this is very good news for United.”
