KILLIE STAR’S IN A WRIGHT FURY Robinson: I’ve got three players for Big Eck’s squad

- EUAN McLEAN

STEPHEN ROBINSON reckons Richard Tait is the answer to Scotland’s problem right-back position.

The Motherwell boss believes Tait leads a trio of contenders in his team worthy of a call-up when Alex McLeish announces his first squad for the friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary.

With the new Scotland boss seeking to build a squad for the future, Robinson thinks young Chris Cadden and Allan Campbell are also due a crack at the national set-up having established themselves as ever-presents in the Well squad.

But Tait, who was born in Galashiels yet spent most of his career playing in England, is the name that might surprise most fans – because many won’t even realise he is a Scot.

Robinson said: “I keep hearing people in the press talking about the lack of options at right-back and nobody has mentioned Richard Tait, perhaps nobody knows he’s Scottish. But he is someone who should be right up there.

“Richard has been an ever-present in a side that has been relatively successful and bar Daniel Candeias he has the most assists in the league.

“He’s played everywhere – right-back, left-back, and gets up and down. He just epitomises everything that is good about us. He’s a fit boy and has good quality in both feet.

“Richard has just got better and better from when I first came to the club. He has really improved since then.

“Hopefully Richard will be in Alex McLeish’s mind, as will Chris Cadden and Allan Campbell.

“Wee Allan has been a revelation for us this season. Chris Cadden is getting back to what he was doing before his hamstring injury and has been terrific in the last two games for us.

“I’m sure Alex will be well aware of all of those things and I’m sure they will be considered.”
