IT’S RUBY TUESDAY
Walsh return could cost bookies £100m
PUNTERS are praying for a £100million Cheltenham jackpot following bionic jockey Ruby Walsh’s miracle recovery from a broken leg.
Bookies fear they’ll be taken to the cleaners if Walsh, 38, rides a string of short-price favourites to victory at the festival, which starts tomorrow.
The Irish jockey returned to the saddle last week – just three months after smashing his right leg in a horror fall.
In his career, the dad of three has had 13 broken bones, three dislocations and even a ruptured spleen.
Walsh is expected to get up to 20 rides at Cheltenham and racing experts say if all his horses win, bookies would lose £100million. Pundit John McCririck, 77, said: “We are so lucky to get Ruby back because he’s the top human personality at the festival. Cheltenham wouldn’t be the same without him. He has shown incredible strength of character to come back.”
