Welcome was not fit for this prince
THERE was something a little off about my journey in to Westminster this week – everywhere I looked, the same face appeared.
On billboards, on the side of taxis and plastered across major news outlets was the face of Saudi crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman.
Unfortunately for the crown prince, even a massive and expensive PR campaign wasn’t enough to distract from his brutal record at home.
At the same time as the UK Government rolled out the red carpet for Bin Salman, his regime continued to indiscriminately bomb neighbouring Yemen.
It’s a war which this Tory Government are complicit in through the eye-watering sale of arms totalling £4.6billion.
Amnesty International have said the Saudi-led bombing of Yemen appears to have “deliberately targeted civilians and civilian objects such as hospitals, schools, markets and mosques, which may amount to war crimes”.
British-made bombs would have almost certainly been involved and that should shame this UK Government.
So, when Theresa May stood up in Westminster to proudly welcome the Saudi crown prince, I was glad to be on the same benches as SNP colleagues as we demanded the UK Government live up to their responsibility in holding the Saudi regime to account.
