Car clue to savage beating

-

DETECTIVES probing a gangland attack are scouring a burned-out car for clues.

William Barclay, 26, was shot at and beaten last week after being ambushed by two men as he got out of a car in Springburn, Glasgow.

He suffered serious injuries after being attacked with weapons, leaving him with serious injuries.

Officers, who are treating the attack as attempted murder, have now found the vehicle they believe the attackers used.

The blue Volvo 4x4 was found on a country road near Kirklee Green Reservoir in Ayrshire on Saturday.

Officers believe they will be able to recover forensic evidence from the vehicle.

The force said: “The car has been uplifted and will undergo a detailed examination by specialist forensic officers.”

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham added: “Although we believe this attack was targeted, we still do not know the motive for the attempted murder.

“I’m sure there are people out there with information about the incident. We can’t allow the use of firearms on our streets and it’s essential we trace those involved.”
