Teenager is arrested on rape charge

A MAN has been arrested on charges of raping a teenage girl on New Year’s Day.

The 16-year-old was subjected to an alleged serious sexual assault in Atholl Place, Linwood, Renfrewshire, in the early hours of January 1.

She had been bringing in the New Year at a nearby house when the alleged attack took place.

Police said yesterday that an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He has been released on an undertaking to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court at a later date.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
