ANDY TOUN FLYER

- NEIL McLEMAN

ANDY MURRAY could make his long-awaited comeback at Scotstoun Leisure Centre next month – where he’d battle for a cheque of just over £10,000. The Scot, who hasn’t played competitively since last year’s

From Back Page Wimbledon, is eyeing up a new Challenger Tour event to be staged in Glasgow on April 28 as he nears full recovery from the hip surgery that has seen him lose his world and British No.1 ranking.

Murray, 30, originally targeted a return for the grass-court season in June.

But his recovery has gone so well he intends to get back on court by the end of this month – and could now return to action in Glasgow or at another Challenger event at Loughborough University on May 19.

The LTA tournaments, which are held on indoor hard courts at a level below the main ATP Tour and offer a total of £72,146 in prize money, would get a major boost if Murray plays.

LTA head of men’s tennis and Davis Cup captain Leon Smith said: “These events are invaluable in providing high-quality match experience as well as the opportunity to build up important ranking points.

“Hopefully we can see high-level performances.”
