A COUPLE say they face months of anguish after their nine-year-old son was one of seven primary school pupils jabbed by a dirty needle.

Eddie Scott was chased by another youngster and pricked on the hand with the needle near his home in Irvine, Ayrshire.

Now parents Zander and Kelly Scott face a monthslong wait for the results of tests for HIV and hepatitis.

Eddie only told his parents about the incident the day after it happened on March 4 in the grounds of Redburn Community Centre.

They then alerted teachers at Castlepark Primary, who identified a further six kids at risk.

All were taken to hospital for blood tests.

Police say an 11-year-old boy has been referred to the early and effective interventions coordinator over the incident.

Zander, 45, said: “It’s a living nightmare. We’re just left in this horrible situation where we have to hope for the best. It keeps playing over and over in our minds.

“Thankfully, Eddie’s neither up nor down because he’s too young to realise the seriousness of it all.

“How do you explain to a wee boy that he might have contracted something – it’s just awful.”

Zander claims discarded needles are rife in the area and has urged the authorities to take action.

North Ayrshire Council said needles had been removed from the site and further checks would be carried out.
