TWO childhood sweethearts will today become the first couple in the history of the Cheltenham Festival to race against each other.

Rising-star rider Bryony Frost, 22, takes on boyfriend Harry Cobden, 19, in the RSA Chase this afternoon.

They met as kids riding on Dartmoor and have been going out a couple of years.

A source said: “This is the first time a couple have raced against each other at the festival.

“Races are always high spirited but I imagine this one will be even more competitive.

“She only went public with him a few weeks ago. It will certainly add some spice to an already fascinating race.”

Bryony, whose dad Jimmy won the Grand National in 1989, is at 8-1 on Black Corton while Harry is at 11-1 on Elegant Escape.

Speaking recently, Bryony said she and Harry have always enjoyed a competitive edge. Telling how they once jumped from a cliff into a river, she joked: “There have been times I’ve nearly killed Harry. I guess he’s just not as feral as me.”

Bryony has won five times at Cheltenham since turning pro last July but has yet to make her mark at the festival.

More than 250,000 will visit over its four days and 28 races, with 260,000 pints of Guinness drunk and five tons of salmon eaten.
