WE NEED A MIRACLE TO SAVE OUR MUM

THE daughters of a woman with terminal cancer have launched a fundraising drive in the hope of finding a miracle cure for their mum.

Chloe, Caitlin and Savannah Calder are bidding to raise enough money to send their mum Lucy Wilson to a specialist clinic in Germany for treatment.

Chloe, 18, launched a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the potentially life-saving treatment, with the help of 15-year-old Caitlin and Savannah, 11.

Chloe said: “I’m asking for a miracle I know but we need help to save her.”

Lucy, a mobile hairdresser from Evanton near Dingwall, has been diagnosed with stage three endometrial cancer.

Doctors initially said they could carry out a hysterectomy to remove the cancer but after chemotherapy sessions Lucy was told her condition was terminal. The disease had progressed to her pelvic lymph nodes and spread towards her abdomen.

The 38-year-old said the pain of the illness and treatment is hard to deal with and she has been left feeling drained after chemotherapy.

But she revealed the psychological aspect has been the most difficult thing to deal with.

She said: “They said to me it was incurable and treated me as if I was just a number on a piece of paper.

“I was young and healthy with three girls to look after.

“I know the treatment in Germany might not work but I’m willing to try anything that will help me fight this and give me my life back.

“I’ve got to always be strong and fight and, most of all, stay positive.”

Lucy narrowly avoided death just days after her diagnosis last September.

She was involved in a serious car crash while travelling to Newcastle on the A1 and had to be cut from the wreckage along with her boyfriend Dexi and her mum.

All three ended up in hospital — Lucy for a week. She had a broken sternum, damage to her lungs and a head injury.

That led to her cancer treatment being delayed but despite her illness and injuries, she has continued with as normal a life as possible.

Youngest daughter Savannah has Williams syndrome and has to deal with learning difficulties and cardiovascular issues.

Lucy has recovered from serious illness before, more than a decade ago, so the girls know their mum is a fighter.

Chloe said: “My mum had a massive stroke when she was just 27, so she has been through a lot and just deserves the chance to live.”

A night is being held in Evanton’s Jubilee Hall on March 30 and Lucy’s cousin Sam Bain has organised an event at Dows Bar in Inverness on May 4.
