Corrie Sue: It’s time flirty Audrey got another man

Street siren ready for new love interest

CORONATION Street legend Sue Nicholls says she is due an on-screen love interest. The actress, 74, has played Audrey Roberts since 1979 and admits the man-eater has calmed down over the years.

But she says Audrey is now back in the market for a fling with a beefcake – and the tattoo parlour on the new Weatherfield set could be the place to start looking.

Asked about a romance, she said: “I keep saying if there’s a dishy tattooist, then the answer is yes.

“I’d like a nice big hunk. The only other person I’d say would be good for Audrey is someone like Harvey Keitel’s Pulp Fiction character Winston Wolfe.

“I’ve always thought he’d be the type of fella for her – tough, attractive and tells her what he wants.”

Audrey arrived in Corrie as an unwed mum in 1979 and became a permanent cast member in 1985.

Sue said: “Back in the day, Audrey was a man-eater.

“I watch classic episodes and when I arrived, I was flirty. Anyone bought you a G&T and you were away!

“I wondered if I was like that in real life but you do change as you get older.”

Fans will soon see Audrey get a potential love interest – but the plot doesn’t go far. Sue said: “I do have a bit of a flirt coming up.

“It’s funny because I have an accident. This gentleman arrives and it’s all a bit of a misunderstanding.

“It’s kind of sweet more than heavy panting! It goes in another direction, which is nice because I’m waiting for the tattooist.”

Sue has been married to actor Mark Eden for 25 years but says older women don’t necessarily need a partner to be happy.

She said: “Everybody thinks you need a man or you’re going to drink yourself to death because you’re so lonely. I don’t think that. Ask around – many women are quite happy.

“I’m happy on my own as Audrey. She goes home and shuts the door thinking, ‘Peace at last.’”

I always thought Winston Wolfe was the type of fella for Audrey
