FITZ BAGS A DOUBLE
ANTHONY McGILL aims to silence on-song John Higgins in their all-Scottish snooker showdown at this week’s European Masters.
The pair lock horns tomorrow in the new 16-man event in Romania but the Glaswegian knows he’ll have to sparkle with the Wishaw Wizard, a four-time world champion, flying high after his record-breaking fifth Welsh Open win.
McGill said: “I’m not just going there for the John Higgins show, I’ll be trying my best and I know I need to be at the top of my game if I’m going to beat him.”
But the world No.16 is confident, adding: “If I play well feel I can do it.”
Meanwhile, Milton potter Stephen Maguire kicks off his bid for the £44,000 top prize against England’s Mark King today. TEENAGER Menna Fitzpatrick hailed her “amazing” second Winter Paralympics medal after claiming silver in the visually impaired super-combined event alongside guide Jennifer Kehoe.
It was a second trip to the podium in Pyeongchang for the British pair, having secured super-G bronze on Sunday.
And delighted 19-year-old Fitzpatrick said: “I need to take a deep breath! It feels amazing. I’m over the moon.”
Their super-G time of one minute and 31.49 seconds from yesterday’s opening session put them in second place and they retained the spot.
Fitzpatrick also revealed the interesting mental image she focuses on before racing.
She said: “In the start gate just before we go out, I think about butterflies that are drinking tea while doing yoga.”
