HE was dressed like an undertaker and Sevilla boss Vincenzo Montella made sure his side buried Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s side crashed out the Champions League at the last-16 stage after falling victim to two goals in four minutes from Sevilla substitute Ben Yedder.

Favourites to progress after a 0-0 draw in Spain, United were flat throughout and validated Mourinho’s pre-match admission they were not equipped to go on and win the competition.

Sevilla, fifth in La Liga, were considered one of the weaker teams left in the last 16 but they were more than a match for the Red Devils – second in the Premier League – and outclassed them.

Despite the shock defeat Mourinho tried to shrug it off. He said: “We had good periods, we didn’t have great control over the game but I can’t say there was anything wrong with my players and their intention to play.

“That’s football, we lost but tomorrow is another day and Saturday is another match.

“I’m pleased the players aren’t hiding their sadness but we have no time for drama.”

The United boss made two changes to the side that beat rivals Liverpool 2-1 at the weekend, Marouane Fellaini in for Scott McTominay and Jesse Lingard for Juan Mata.

Queens shrugged off an early scare to take a 21st-minute lead with a wonderful 20-yard curling effort from Thomas.

United levelled through Mikkelsen minutes later when he controlled a deep ball into the box, held off Callum Fordyce, and hooked a fine shot in off the bar.

They went ahead in 47 minutes with a fabulous 20-yard piledriver from Smith and 10 minutes later he bundle home the third.

Queens’ sub Derek Lyle twice lashed the ball into the United net in the closing stages but was ruled offside on both occasions.
